The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it will issue refunds to students who were overcharged during the Class 12 post-result re-evaluation process due to technical issues. The decision follows widespread complaints from students regarding discrepancies in fee deductions while applying for scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets.
In an official notice issued on May 24, 2026, the CBSE stated that technical glitches on May 21 and 22 led to incorrect fee deductions in certain cases. The board explained that while some students were charged excess amounts, others were charged lesser amounts than required. The CBSE clarified that all excess payments will be refunded to the original payment method used by the students. For cases where lesser amounts were deducted, students will be informed separately about the balance payment, if required. Importantly, the board assured that scanned copies of evaluated answer books will be provided in all such cases without students needing to submit fresh requests.
The technical issues surfaced amid concerns raised by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who sought a detailed report from the CBSE on May 23, 2026. Pradhan took serious cognizance of the complaints, which included server downtime, payment gateway glitches, and operational lapses during the re-evaluation process. Sources revealed that the minister’s intervention came after multiple reports of students facing difficulties in accessing the CBSE’s online portal for re-evaluation.
In a statement released on May 23, 2026, the CBSE acknowledged the issues and assured that it was actively monitoring and addressing them. The board mentioned that corrective measures, including timeline extensions and technical interventions, were being implemented to resolve the glitches. It also urged parents and students not to be anxious if they encountered such issues, emphasizing that the verification and re-evaluation mechanism was designed to address genuine concerns in a fair and structured manner.
The CBSE attributed the technical disruptions to exceptionally high traffic on its portal during peak periods, which led to some delays and errors. Despite these challenges, the board assured that all students would receive their evaluated answer sheets as per their requests, with no additional steps required from their side.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by educational boards in managing high volumes of online requests, particularly during critical periods like result re-evaluations. The CBSE’s prompt response in addressing the issue and ensuring refunds reflects its commitment to student welfare and transparency in its processes.
