The election process for the post of Chairman in Punjab’s local body elections is turning into a heated and intense battle. In this electoral race, senior Akali Dal leader and MLA from Malerkotla, Rana Inder Pratap Singh, has staked his claim. His candidature, however, is being opposed by close aides of Amarinder Singh and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). On Tuesday, the atmosphere turned volatile during the election process in a block of Tarn Taran district when supporters of Rana Inder Pratap clashed with AAP workers.
It has been learnt that the confrontation began during the election process when AAP workers questioned election officials over possible irregularities. Supporters of Rana Inder Pratap opposed them and refused to engage in discussion, leading to a verbal spat and escalation of tensions. Local police had to intervene to control the situation and pacify both sides.
