In a significant development, the Thiruvananthapuram City Police have submitted a chargesheet in the case related to the alleged attempt to attack former Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, aboard a flight in June 2022. The chargesheet was filed before the Thiruvananthapuram Principal District and Sessions Court against the Youth Congress leaders accused in the incident.
The incident took place on a flight from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram, where Youth Congress activists allegedly staged a protest against Mr. Vijayan. The Valiyathura police booked four Youth Congress workers in the case, initially including provisions under aviation laws. However, the investigation team faced setbacks as prosecution under these sections required prior sanction from the Centre, which was not forthcoming. In the absence of the required approval, the investigation team decided to drop the charges related to aviation laws.
