Joseph Vijay, who took office as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister after M K Stalin’s resignation, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday. This was his first post-appointment interaction with the Prime Minister. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed several key issues concerning the state.
According to sources, the discussion covered Tamil Nadu’s development, centre-state relations and, prominently, the Mekedatu dam controversy. Joseph Vijay urged the Union government to heed the state’s demands and developmental projects, while Prime Minister Modi assured Tamil Nadu of the Centre’s support for its growth.
The Mekedatu dam dispute has been a long-standing issue, with Karnataka pushing the project forward and Tamil Nadu opposing it. This meeting also delved into the matter in detail. Besides, talks were held on ongoing development schemes in the state and the grants to be disbursed by the Centre.
