New Delhi, August 12 – A devastating fire broke out in a slum in Delhi’s Rohini area, claiming the life of a young man. Firefighting teams managed to bring the blaze under control after a gruelling eight-hour operation. Despite a swift response, the fire caused extensive damage, leaving several families homeless.
Police officials said the fire was reported around 5 pm in a slum located in Sector 24 of Rohini. The blaze is believed to have been sparked by an electrical short circuit or carelessness in the kitchen. Strong winds fanned the flames, making the fire more intense and allowing it to spread to nearby shanties. Locals immediately alerted the fire department, following which around 50 firefighters arrived at the scene and launched rescue operations.
Fire department officials stated that it took a total of eight hours to bring the fire under control. During this time, several shanties were completely gutted, and multiple families were evacuated to safer locations. One 28-year-old man lost his life after suffering severe burn injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Additionally, about 15 people were hospitalised with minor injuries, most of whom suffered from burns and smoke inhalation.
