A major fire broke out in Delhi’s Sainik Farms area on Sunday night. The incident occurred near the Sainik Farms metro station, where seven people lost their lives in the blaze. Firefighters rushed to the scene as soon as the fire was reported. Though they managed to rescue those trapped, seven fatalities have been confirmed. Several others were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.
According to police, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Local residents and witnesses suggested that the fire may have started in a house. However, police and fire officials are investigating to ascertain the exact cause. Since Sainik Farms is located near a key station on Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, the incident has unsettled local residents.
Speaking to reporters, S.K. Dey, Chief Fire Officer, said, “The fire was brought under control with the help of around 50 firefighters and 10 fire engines. We worked hard to rescue those trapped, but we are saddened by the loss of seven lives.” He added that while the cause is still unknown, the investigation is underway.
