New Delhi – A sharp spike in missing persons cases has been reported from Delhi’s streets and public places over the past 15 days. According to Delhi Police data, a total of 807 citizens went missing between 1 and 15 October. Of these, 228 are women, a figure that has sparked alarm on social media and among local residents. The surge in disappearances has left many parents and relatives worried about the safety of their loved ones.
A Delhi Police spokesperson said that complaints regarding the missing persons have been registered, but no special search operation has been launched. The police maintain that most cases involve individuals leaving home voluntarily or losing contact with family. Still, the disappearance of women has raised particular concern. Local activists and social organisations claim that many women either leave on their own or are forced to do so.
Similar incidents were reported last year, but the figures for the first half of October this year have shocked everyone. Criticism has mounted against the Delhi government and police administration over women’s and children’s safety. Several women’s groups have demanded immediate action from Delhi Police, insisting that a dedicated task force be formed to trace the missing women swiftly.
