Natrampalli police in Tirupattur district, Tamil Nadu, arrested a 42-year-old tipper lorry driver for illegally transporting river sand extracted from the dry riverbed of the Palar. The arrest took place near Jolarpet town on Saturday, May 23, 2026, following a tip-off and subsequent police action.
According to police officials, a team was patrolling the Chennai–Bengaluru National Highway (NH 48) at Bathalapalli village, close to Natrampalli, when they observed a tipper lorry. The officers stopped the vehicle and conducted a routine inspection. During the check, they discovered a large quantity of river sand loaded in the lorry. However, before the police could detain the driver, the individual fled the scene on foot.
