Chennai International Airport has activated enhanced passenger screening protocols starting May 24, 2026, as a precautionary measure against potential Ebola-related health risks. The move follows directives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which issued a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on May 22, 2026, to mitigate the spread of Ebola.
Under the new guidelines, airlines operating flights to or from Uganda or Congo are required to ensure that all passengers—whether originating from or transiting through these countries—mandatorily fill out a self-declaration form. This form collects essential details including personal and contact information, travel origin, exposure history, and any current medical symptoms. The purpose of the form is to identify high-risk individuals early and enable health authorities to take immediate action if necessary.
