A 22-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh has become pregnant for the sixth time in seven years, prompting a gynaecologist to warn of serious health risks associated with closely spaced pregnancies. Speaking to local media, the attending doctor expressed concern over the patient’s repeated pregnancies, noting that such rapid childbirth can lead to severe anaemia, malnutrition, chronic fatigue, and life-threatening pregnancy complications.
The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly gave birth five times between 2017 and 2023, with the latest pregnancy occurring just months after her last delivery. Medical experts have long cautioned that pregnancies spaced too closely—less than 24 months apart—significantly increase the risk of maternal health emergencies, including haemorrhage, hypertensive disorders, and even maternal mortality. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a minimum interval of 24 months between a live birth and the next pregnancy to allow the mother’s body to recover fully.
