In a village in Maharashtra, the Muslim community has taken a significant decision to refrain from Qurbani (sacrifice) of sheep and goats during the Bakrid festival. This move has drawn attention across the state and is being seen as a step towards social harmony and environmental conservation.
The decision was announced following consultations between the local panchayat and Muslim community leaders. The primary reasons behind refraining from Qurbani include environmental protection and reducing animal slaughter. Additionally, preserving harmony among different religions is another key objective behind this decision. In this village, Hindu and Muslim communities live together harmoniously, demonstrating mutual respect and cooperation while celebrating religious festivals.
Speaking about this decision, local Muslim cleric and Panchayat President Mohammad Ali said, "Our community and the elders of the village have accepted this decision. By refraining from Qurbani, we can reduce the suffering of animals and also benefit the environment." He further expressed his belief that this decision will bring positive change within the community.
