A 76-year-old resident of Bengaluru’s Pai Layout fell victim to an elaborate cyber fraud scheme that resulted in a loss of over ₹16.24 lakh. The scam involved fraudsters impersonating officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch and staging a fake virtual court proceeding to psychologically pressure and intimidate the elderly man. The incident was registered as a cybercrime case by the South East Division Cyber Crime Police on Saturday, under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
