The new bus terminus in Royapuram, Chennai, has been fully constructed, yet it has remained unused for several months. The terminal is surrounded by piles of garbage, making it impossible for passengers to utilise. The delay stems from a lack of coordination between municipal and government bodies.
According to reports, construction on the Royapuram bus terminus was completed last year. However, essential environmental cleanup and sanitation work must be carried out before the terminal can be opened. These tasks have not yet been properly addressed. The absence of coordination between municipal officials and bus operators has further delayed the terminal’s opening.
Once operational, the new terminus is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Chennai. The existing old bus stand in Royapuram currently operates at high capacity, causing congestion. The new terminal’s opening is projected to substantially reduce passenger crowding.
