Chennai: In a decisive move amid escalating political tensions, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has barred 21 rebel MLAs from using their former party posts in campaign advertisements. The directive, issued through the AIADMK leadership, underscores the party’s resolve to curb dissent and maintain organisational discipline.
The ban comes after a group of 21 MLAs, led by former Deputy Speaker Pollachi V. Jayaraman, openly defied the party leadership and joined the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance. These MLAs, who were elected on the AIADMK ticket in the 2021 assembly elections, have since been vocal in their criticism of Palaniswami and have actively participated in events organised by the DMK. The party now views their actions as a breach of party discipline and a threat to its unity.
