Former Karnataka fast bowler S.L. Akshay died suddenly on Sunday at the age of 39 after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing in a KSCA third division match for Sapphire Cricket Club at SLS Kreedangana. Akshay, who was bowling his fourth over, left the field and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Shivamogga-born cricketer had a brief but impactful career in domestic cricket, representing Karnataka in six First Class matches, three List A games, and nine T20 fixtures.
