A significant initiative for women’s empowerment has been launched in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh. The district administration, in collaboration with the state government, has rolled out an ambitious programme aimed at making 67,000 women self-reliant. Under this scheme, women will receive skill training, entrepreneurship encouragement, and financial support, officials have stated.
According to the plan, the first phase will focus on training 25,000 women. The training will be tailored for women with limited resources and will concentrate on fields such as embroidery, beauty parlour management, food processing, cotton products, and digital literacy. These skills will enable women to start their own ventures or sell their products in local markets.
In addition to training, the scheme includes financial assistance. Each woman will be eligible for a subsidy or loan of up to ₹50,000, which can be used to start a business or expand an existing one. Notably, the government has allocated ₹150 crore for this initiative.
Around 500 villages in Ghaziabad district are expected to benefit from this programme, which will be implemented through local self-help groups. Women will also receive specialised training in entrepreneurship and financial management. District Magistrate Sachin Kumar stated that the scheme will create new opportunities for women.
