Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh — A year after her marriage, a 22-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her in-laws’ home in Gwalior’s Birlanagar area. The incident has raised serious questions about domestic violence and marital safety, with the victim’s last words over the phone—“Papa, mujhe yahaan se le jaao” (“Dad, take me away from here”)—adding to the suspicion surrounding her death.
According to police reports, the woman, identified as Priya Sharma (name changed for privacy), was married to Rajesh Verma on May 10, 2023. Neighbors reported hearing a loud argument between the couple on the night of May 10, 2024. When family members entered the room, Priya was found unconscious on the floor. Despite rushed efforts to take her to a nearby hospital, she was declared dead on arrival.
An autopsy has been conducted, and preliminary reports suggest possible poisoning or physical assault. However, the final forensic analysis is still pending. The victim’s family has alleged foul play and demanded a CBI probe, claiming that Priya had confided in them about domestic abuse in the past few months.
