The Kerala High Court on Monday, June 1, 2025, issued a series of directives to the Cochin Devaswom Board and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the preservation of cleanliness and the enhancement of pilgrim services at the historic Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple in Ernakulam district. The court’s intervention follows a review of submissions made by the Board and officials regarding persistent maintenance and hygiene concerns on the temple premises.
During the hearing, the Cochin Devaswom Board informed the court that immediate steps were being taken to implement the directives. One of the key issues highlighted was the improper disposal of footwear by devotees, which had led to clutter around the temple premises. In response, the Board proposed converting a police aid post—established earlier when the temple lacked a dedicated police station—into a designated footwear counter. This measure aims to streamline footwear management and improve the overall environment for pilgrims.
