The Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APEPDCL) on Monday confirmed that heavy rainfall accompanied by strong cyclonic winds has caused extensive damage to the state’s power infrastructure across seven districts. Speaking to the press, APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Prudhvitej Immadi stated that uprooted trees have collapsed onto overhead power lines, severely disrupting electricity distribution in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and East Godavari districts.
The most severe damage has been recorded in Srikakulam district, where 41 power poles have been broken due to fallen trees and wind pressure. In the Anakapalli and Jaggampeta divisions, the situation is even more critical. A total of 279 electricity poles and 31 transformers have been damaged, while nearly 20 kilometres of power lines have been rendered inoperable. The company has activated rapid-response teams equipped with cranes and specialized pole-drilling machinery to clear fallen trees and restore power lines on an emergency basis. These teams are working round-the-clock to replace damaged infrastructure and reconnect supply points.
