New Delhi, 15 June 2025 – The Ministry of Education, in partnership with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), will today felicitate 24 distinguished teachers from across India as part of the ‘Icons of Education 2026’ initiative. The award ceremony, scheduled for 4:00 PM at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, will be presided over by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This marks the first edition of the annual honours, designed to celebrate teachers who have made outstanding contributions to pedagogy, innovation, and student welfare.
Among the awardees are educators from government and private schools, spanning states including Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. Recipients include Ms. Shobha Rani (Kerala), a mathematics teacher known for her use of storytelling to teach algebra; Mr. Rakesh Kumar (Delhi), who developed a low-cost science lab kit used in over 200 schools; and Ms. Anjali Devi (Tamil Nadu), recognized for her inclusive education model for children with disabilities. Each awardee will receive a citation, a gold medal, and a cash prize of ₹5 lakh.
