Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh – A 28-year-old para athlete was shot dead in broad daylight on Thursday in the city’s Vijay Nagar area, police confirmed. The victim, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was a national-level para athlete who had represented India in several competitions. According to officials, Kumar was attacked by a group of assailants while he was returning home from his daily practice session around 4:30 PM. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Suresh Yadav, who was Kumar’s longtime friend and neighbor. Yadav has been charged with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Preliminary investigations reveal that the two had a financial dispute over a recent loan transaction, which allegedly led to the fatal shooting. Yadav reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, stating that he had planned the attack after Kumar refused to return the money he had borrowed.
