In a significant move towards making Telangana a kutcha-free state, the Telangana government has approved the construction of 2.5 lakh houses under the second phase of the Indiramma scheme. The scheme, launched in 2023, offers land and financial assistance to homeless and landless citizens of Telangana.
The Cabinet has allocated 2,000 houses to each constituency, with the aim of providing secure and dignified housing to economically weaker sections. The government has also decided to provide financial support for incomplete homes, with Rs 2 lakh for houses where walls are completed but slabs are pending, and Rs 3 lakh for houses that had reached only the foundation stage during the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh. The government has allocated a total budget of Rs 22,000 crore for the scheme, with financial assistance disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
