Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Kerala have been hiked again. The price has been increased by ₹2 per kg. This is the fourth price hike since May 15. Given that fuel price fluctuations directly impact the common man's pocket, this increase is causing further concern among the public.
According to an order issued by the State Government’s Fuel Department, the price hike will come into effect from June 1, 2024. The first price hike of 2024 was implemented on May 15. Since then, price increases have been implemented consecutively on June 1, June 15, and July 1. With the latest hike, the price of CNG has risen to ₹80 per kg.
The primary reason cited for the rise in CNG prices is the increasing international Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) prices. Additionally, fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate and higher costs in the fuel supply chain are also contributing factors. Concerns among the public regarding rising fuel prices are growing.
According to the Fuel Department’s order, the price hike will be uniformly applicable across all CNG depots. Officials have stated that special boards will be set up at depots to help the public understand and adapt to the new prices.
