The Maharashtra government has launched a sweeping initiative to redefine Mumbai’s urban landscape by eliminating slums through large-scale redevelopment projects. Under this plan, 19 designated “cluster redevelopment zones” have been established across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, aiming to convert densely populated, unplanned settlements into well-structured, modern residential and commercial hubs. These zones will feature wide roads, green spaces, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and improved civic infrastructure—marking a major shift from informal settlements to planned urban development.
