The Ambani family, owners of Reliance Industries—the most talked-about business dynasty in India—has seen its next generation step into the company’s operations. Yet, here’s the twist: none of them draws a regular salary from the firm. For the sixth consecutive year, Mukesh Ambani has declined to take a salary. Even his children—Isha Ambani, Akash Ambani, and Anant Ambani—receive no fixed pay from Reliance Industries. Despite this, their combined wealth continues to grow. How is this possible? The answer lies in the company’s latest annual report.
According to Reliance Industries’ Annual Report for 2023-24, the Ambani family’s income flows primarily from dividends, commissions, and shareholdings. Their wealth is boosted by dividend payouts, meeting fees for attending board meetings, commissions, and the rising market value of Reliance shares. The numbers show that in October 2023, Isha, Akash, and Anant were inducted into the company’s board. Since then, each has received ₹5 lakh per board meeting as a sitting fee. Additionally, Akash and Isha earned commissions of ₹2.5 crore each. Anant Ambani, too, has benefited financially through board-level responsibilities.
