World number one Jannik Sinner suffered one of the most dramatic upsets in French Open history on Thursday, collapsing physically under the extreme Paris heat and crashing out of the tournament in the second round. The 24-year-old Italian, widely regarded as the overwhelming favourite for the title after defending champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew with injury, squandered a commanding two-set lead before losing 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 to Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Court Philippe Chatrier. The defeat ended Sinner’s remarkable 30-match winning streak, which dated back to February, and blew the men’s draw wide open in Roland Garros.
