Coimbatore witnessed outrage and protests on Saturday after the body of a 10-year-old girl, who had gone missing the previous evening, was found near Kannampalayam lake on Friday. The girl, who was playing outside her home in Pallapalayam, had disappeared around 5 pm on Thursday. Her family immediately filed a police complaint, and a case was registered by 10 pm the same day. Within hours, police formed five teams and began reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace her movements.
Around 6 pm on Friday, the girl’s body was discovered near the lake close to Sulur. Investigators zeroed in on a neighbour, identified as 33-year-old K Karthi, a native of Nagapattinam district, after reviewing surveillance footage that showed him luring the child away from the vicinity of her house. Police tracked him to an apartment complex in Kannampalayam and launched an operation to arrest him.
