A major canal in the Trichy Corporation area has become blocked, causing nearby homes to be submerged in sewage. The incident, which occurred two days ago, has severely affected residents in the surrounding areas.
Due to the blockage, sewage has been unable to drain properly and has started entering homes, disrupting daily life for residents. Locals report that children and the elderly are particularly affected by the unsanitary conditions.
Corporation officials are investigating the issue and have assured that the blocked section of the canal will be cleared immediately. Chief Engineer Rajendran stated that temporary arrangements will also be made to manage sewage discharge in the affected areas.
However, environmental activists blame persistent issues like this on flaws in the city’s drainage system. Environmentalist Kalaiselvi explained that the lack of proper maintenance in the drainage infrastructure has left residents living in unhealthy conditions.
