New Delhi, July 24: Karnataka has been allocated ₹7,748 crore for railway infrastructure development in the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday. The announcement was made during a press briefing following the presentation of the Union Budget in Parliament.
The substantial allocation aims to accelerate multiple rail projects across the state, including the expansion of dedicated freight corridors, doubling of existing tracks, and modernization of railway stations. Vaishnaw highlighted that the funds will also support the development of new rail lines connecting key industrial and agricultural hubs, thereby enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth.
Among the key projects identified for funding are the Bengaluru-Mysuru high-speed rail corridor and the Hassan-Mangaluru line, both critical for improving inter-city and regional connectivity. The minister also mentioned plans for the installation of advanced signaling systems and the upgradation of tracks to handle higher train speeds and increased freight movement.
