A devastating accident occurred on Saturday evening near the Saket Metro Station in South Delhi. A five-storey residential building suddenly collapsed, killing six people so far. Additionally, two individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital. In this incident, six people, including a woman, lost their lives after being trapped under the debris. Officials who arrived at the scene reported that the process of recovering the bodies from the rubble is still underway.
Among the deceased is 50-year-old Parvati, affectionately known as ‘Mesa Aunty’ by students preparing for competitive exams in the area. Parvati, originally from Nepal, had been living in the Saket area of South Delhi with her family for several years. A year and a half ago, she opened a new mess (boarding house) in Saket, where hundreds of students preparing for medical and engineering exams regularly came to eat. The food she prepared was not only affordable but also popular among students due to its homely taste. Parvati would celebrate her birthday with the mess staff and students, ensuring no student went hungry. She even provided meals late into the night. Medical student Kapil shared that nearly a hundred students visited her mess every day, where they felt at home. Another student, Mohammad Imam, mentioned that the mess offered dal, rice, vegetables, salad, parathas, and omelettes at very reasonable prices, and Parvati never turned anyone away, even if they arrived late.
