Protests in Kekri, Rajasthan, over the supply of potable water took a dramatic turn on Monday. Residents took to the streets to protest the distribution of dirty and impure water in the town. Demonstrators blocked major roads in Kekri, leading to severe traffic jams on the national highway connecting Ajmer to Kota. The situation escalated to the point where police had to resort to lathi charges and impose Section 144.
Residents allege irregularities in the water supply system, claiming they are not receiving drinkable water. Administrative officials, however, attribute the issue to a technical glitch in the water supply system. Mahendra Singh Bishnoi, Chairman of the Kekri Municipal Council, admitted that the water quality had been affected due to some technical problems in the supply system and assured that efforts were underway to rectify the issue immediately.
