A major initiative is underway to alleviate the growing traffic congestion between Delhi and Gurugram, as well as the bottlenecks on routes leading to Indira Gandhi International Airport. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has proposed extending the Dwarka Expressway to the Mayapuri Ring Road. This proposal aims to improve traffic connectivity between West Delhi and Gurugram, helping commuters avoid severe congestion on the Mahipalpur and airport routes.
The proposal will be discussed today in a meeting of the Gurugram Authority. Under DIAL’s ‘Area-Wide De-congestion Strategy’, several large infrastructure projects have been proposed as part of the Transport Connectivity Master Plan for the Delhi Airport region. These include the extension of the Barapullah Expressway to Mahipalpur, expansion of UER-II, construction of the Rangpuri Bypass, the Greater Southern Peripheral Road in Gurugram, an elevated flyover at Rewari Chowk, and the TalKatora-Barapullah link. This report was submitted to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority in the first week of March. The meeting, initially scheduled for May 12, has since been rescheduled.
