The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has launched an investigation into an AI-generated notice that was reportedly issued to street vendors, or hawkers, in the city. The notice, which was circulated on social media platforms, claimed to be an official communication from the KMC, asking hawkers to vacate certain areas by a specified date. However, upon scrutiny, it was revealed that the notice was not an authentic document but an AI-generated one, raising concerns about misinformation and potential misuse of technology.
The KMC’s move to probe the matter comes after several hawkers and local residents raised the alarm over the suspicious notice. Officials confirmed that no such notice had been issued by the civic body and that the document circulating online was a fabricated one. "We are looking into the matter to ascertain the source of this AI-generated notice and to prevent any further misuse of our name," said a senior KMC official who requested anonymity.
