The Left parties in India have announced a state-wide 'rasta roko' (road blockade) protest on June 9 against the repeated increase in petrol and diesel prices. This decision was taken at a meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of CPI(ML) leader Jasti Kishore Babu. The meeting was attended by leaders from various Left parties, including the CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) New Democracy, CPI(ML) Liberation, and MCPI (U), while leaders from the RSP, Forward Bloc, and SUCI (C) extended their support to the resolutions adopted at the meeting.
The CPI(M) State secretary, V. Srinivasa Rao, addressed the media after the meeting and stated that the Centre had increased petrol and diesel prices four times in recent months. He warned that further hikes were likely, which would place a heavy burden on the common people. The Left parties have accused the NDA government at the Centre of pursuing authoritarian and anti-people policies, which are affecting the common people. The parties have planned to organize awareness campaigns, pamphlet distribution drives, public meetings, and seminars from June 1 to 7 to mobilize public support for their protest.
