An incident that took place on Tank Road in Lucknow on Thursday afternoon led to the registration of a case against a scooter rider for allegedly insulting a policeman. According to sources, a 25-year-old youth riding a government scooter was stopped by the police for riding in the wrong direction. The scooter rider allegedly insulted and misbehaved with the policeman, Daroga Ram Mohan Singh, who had stopped him. Eyewitnesses to the incident claim that when the Daroga stopped the scooter rider in a lawful manner, the rider immediately raised his voice and asked, "What is your job? Do you have the authority to tell me that I am going in the wrong direction?" The rider then refused to go to the nearby police station and severely abused the Daroga. After learning about the incident, the officials of the Lucknow police station immediately registered a case. The scooter rider has been booked under IPC sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 294 (obscene acts and songs) for his behavior. It is also noteworthy that the scooter rider was riding a government scooter at the time of the incident. The police are conducting further investigations and recording statements from witnesses.
