Madurai, May 28, 2026: A 29-year-old devotee was brutally assaulted in Madurai district on Wednesday after he lodged a police complaint alleging that songs from Tamil superstar Vijay’s films were not played during a cultural programme organised as part of a temple festival.
R. Pradeep, a resident of Alanganallur in Madurai district, reportedly demanded that the organisers include songs from Vijay-starrer films during the cultural event held at the Sangili Karuppasamy temple on Sunday, May 24. When his request was not heeded, he made a call to the Madurai district police control room to register his grievance. Enraged by his complaint, a group of unidentified youths reportedly confronted Pradeep near Azhapuri on Wednesday evening and assaulted him, leaving him with head injuries. His gold chain was also snatched during the attack.
