The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized 5,929 kg of industrial-grade methanol from a Bhiwandi-based company, Rex International, following a crackdown linked to a devastating bootleg liquor tragedy that claimed 16 lives in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The seizures were confirmed by FDA officials in a press statement issued on Monday, June 1, 2026.
According to an FDA officer involved in the operation, police investigations have established that the methanol used in the production of the spurious liquor originated from Rex International’s warehouse. The company is headquartered in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, and operates an additional warehouse in Bhiwandi, Thane district, where the raid was conducted.
