Kolkata, June 2, 2026: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay on Tuesday asserted that the majority of TMC legislators would remain loyal to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee amid growing speculation about possible defections within the party. Speaking to the Press Trust of India (PTI), Chattopadhyay dismissed reports of a rebellion led by expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, stating that the TMC’s old guard continues to firmly control the organisation. He alleged that attempts were being made by the ruling dispensation to destabilise the opposition party through engineered defections.
