Chennai: A 32-year-old man was arrested by the city police on Tuesday for allegedly stalking a software professional in the Ashok Nagar area, police sources reported. The accused, identified as Ramesh Kumar (name changed for privacy), was taken into custody after the victim lodged a formal complaint at the local police station.
According to police records, the incident began nearly two months ago when the techie, a 28-year-old woman working with a private IT firm in T. Nagar, started receiving repeated unsolicited messages and calls from an unknown number. The messages reportedly contained threatening and abusive language, while the calls were made at odd hours. Despite blocking the number multiple times, the harassment continued, prompting the woman to seek legal recourse.
On Tuesday evening, the victim noticed the accused loitering near her residence in Ashok Nagar. She informed her neighbors and immediately approached the police. Acting on her complaint, officers from the Ashok Nagar Police Station traced and arrested Ramesh Kumar from a nearby locality. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the stalking and admitted to sending the messages and making the calls.
