Mumbai, 12 June 2024 — A 52-year-old man suffering from a long-term kidney ailment died after jumping from the ninth floor of a residential building in Andheri East, police confirmed on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 7:30 AM when the victim, identified as Rajesh Kumar (name changed for privacy), reportedly climbed onto the terrace of a nine-storey apartment complex and jumped.
According to witnesses, Kumar was seen sitting alone on the terrace for nearly 20 minutes before the fall. Neighbours told police he had been visibly distressed for several days. "He was usually quiet but had been walking around looking tense for the past two days," said a local resident who requested anonymity.
Kumar, a resident of the same building, had been undergoing treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD) at a nearby hospital for over three years. Medical records indicate he was on dialysis thrice a week. A preliminary police inquiry suggests the death may have been a suicide, though a final report is pending. "We are investigating whether any recent events or health complications triggered this act," said Senior Inspector Pradeep Shinde from Andheri East Police Station.
