The Meerut police conducted a late-night operation on Friday against a major cow slaughter gang, arresting four accused in an encounter. The incident took place in a dilapidated building in Meerut’s Sardhana area, where a police team raided based on secret information. During the encounter, two accused were injured by gunfire, while two others surrendered.
According to police officials, the gang members had been involved in illegal cow slaughter and meat trafficking for a long time. Upon receiving information, the police team moved towards the dilapidated building, where they found the accused butchering cattle. As soon as the police arrived, the accused resisted, leading to an encounter. During the exchange, two accused were shot and immediately taken to a local hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable for now.
The injured accused are identified as Mohammad Faizan (28 years) and Mohammad Ashraf (32 years). The arrested accused are Mohammad Shameem (35 years) and Mohammad Rashid (29 years). The police have begun interrogating the accused, who have also revealed the names of other gang members. Authorities say the gang had been active for several months and was under police surveillance.
