The police registered an FIR in Meerut’s Sadar Bazar area on Thursday night after an under-construction board was allegedly damaged. A police team reached the spot and took action based on CCTV footage and witness statements. According to sources, the board had the names of political parties written on it, sparking a controversy.
Local resident Mohan Lal said that around 9 pm, some people claimed they were cleaning the paint off the board but instead damaged it. He added that the board had the names of both the BJP and the Congress, raising fears of rising tensions between the two sides. Mohan Lal stated that the board was broken while attempting to remove the paint, leaving it completely damaged.
The police have begun investigating the matter. Superintendent of Police (SP) Mira Bagh said that after receiving information about the incident, a police team arrived at the scene and registered a first information report. She added that the accused are being identified based on CCTV footage and witness statements. The SP also mentioned that talks are underway with both sides to control the situation.
