Meta Platforms, Inc., formerly known as Facebook, announced on Wednesday the launch of paid subscription services for its three core platforms—Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The move signals a strategic pivot from its long-standing reliance on advertising revenue toward a diversified income model. Meta confirmed that users in select countries will have the option to pay a monthly fee to access an ad-free experience and additional premium features.
The subscription service, dubbed "Meta Verified," is designed to offer users enhanced visibility, verification badges, and direct customer support. According to Meta, the program prioritizes authenticity and safety by providing users with a blue verification checkmark, similar to the existing blue badge program. However, unlike traditional verification, this checkmark will now be tied to a paid subscription. The service will initially be available in Australia and New Zealand, with plans for broader rollout in the coming months.
