New Delhi, June 1 — The Congress high command in Delhi has deferred crucial decisions on the formation of the Karnataka cabinet by a day, following the postponement of a high-level meeting involving senior party leaders, including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. The meeting, originally scheduled for Monday evening, has been rescheduled to Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, preparations are underway in Bengaluru for the swearing-in ceremony of D.K. Shivakumar as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, which is set for Wednesday evening near the Vidhana Soudha.
The delay in cabinet formation comes as Congress leaders from Karnataka, including outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, have shifted their focus to Delhi to lobby for ministerial berths. Sources revealed that while Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah reached Delhi by afternoon, Rahul Gandhi arrived late in the evening, preventing the scheduled meeting from taking place. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal held discussions on Karnataka developments. Additionally, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar met Congress general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala to present their preferences for cabinet positions. Shivakumar is also expected to meet with senior leaders separately.
