In response to questions raised after a large number of beneficiaries were found ineligible in Maharashtra government’s ambitious 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin' scheme, the state government has adopted a clear stance. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Tuesday that the deposited amount will not be recovered from the 81 lakh women declared ineligible. However, the entire amount will be recovered from 14,000 men who availed the benefits of the scheme. This decision by the government also addresses allegations by the opposition, who had accused the government of distributing benefits to a large number of women before the elections and later declaring them ineligible.
