Coimbatore, June 1, 2026: A 27-year-old man, Abuthahir Basha, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a drainage near Syrian Church Road in Coimbatore on Monday morning. The body was discovered by conservancy workers of the Coimbatore Corporation during their routine cleaning work. The workers immediately alerted the R.S. Puram police, who rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The body was then shifted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
According to R.S. Puram Inspector Kamatchinathan, Basha had been missing for several days before his family lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday, May 30. A case regarding the missing person was registered, and the police began investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. During the inquest, a wound on the hip region of the body was noticed. The police are now awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death and whether any foul play was involved.
