Mumbai has given its water transport system a major upgrade. India’s first electric flying boat, the Candela P12, has been officially launched. This groundbreaking vessel has begun operations in Mumbai Harbour, offering passengers a fast, eco-friendly, and modern mode of transport.
The Candela P12 is a fully electric, motor-powered boat developed by Sweden-based Candela. It can reach speeds of up to 30 knots (approximately 55 km/h) and can carry 12 passengers along with 2 crew members. The boat has a range of 75 kilometres. Its standout feature is the use of foil-board technology, which lifts the boat slightly above the water, reducing friction and enabling higher speeds.
The launch has been jointly announced by the Mumbai government and the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). The project aims to transform Mumbai’s water transport system. Officials have stated that this electric flying boat is more efficient and eco-friendly compared to the city’s existing transport options. Additionally, it is expected to boost the city’s tourism.
