A shocking incident of alleged parental cruelty against their son has sparked outrage in the Balapur area of Nagpur district. The incident reportedly took place within the jurisdiction of the Balapur police station. According to locals, the parents physically and psychologically abused their 14-year-old son by chaining him up in an attempt to change his behaviour.
According to information provided by police officials, the incident occurred on 12 June 2024. The family, residents of Balapur village, claimed their son was defiant and did not heed elders’ advice, prompting them to resort to this extreme measure to discipline him. Locals stated that the chains were used as a form of punishment. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
Child rights activists have strongly condemned the incident, warning that such actions are not only illegal but also have long-term detrimental effects on a child’s mental health. They pointed out that under the Juvenile Justice Act, corporal punishment for children under 18 is prohibited. Police are now moving towards taking legal action against the family members involved.
