Residents of Vidarbha’s Akola are reeling under a severe heatwave. This morning (May 30) at 8:30 AM, the city recorded a temperature of 43.1°C. Against this backdrop, Akola has secured the fourth spot on the list of the world’s hottest cities. Meanwhile, Nagpur’s temperature has soared to 41.4°C. Other parts of the state are also experiencing extreme heat.
According to the Meteorological Department, several cities in Vidarbha are recording temperatures above 40°C. The heat is particularly intense in areas like Akola, Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli. In Nagpur, the temperature stood at 41.4°C at 8:30 AM this morning. Chandrapur recorded a high of 42.5°C, while Gadchiroli saw 41.8°C.
A report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) places Akola fourth on the list of the world’s hottest cities. Leading the chart is Tamanrasset in Algeria (46.5°C), followed by Baghdad in Iraq (45.3°C) in second place, and Al-Hofuf in Saudi Arabia (44.8°C) in third. This underscores the intensity of the summer heat in Vidarbha.
