Nagarpur Upazila election postponed due to lack of influential candidate

The Nagarpur Upazila election in Tangail district has been postponed. According to sources from the Election Commission, no influential or acting candidate filed nomination papers for the Upazila Parishad chairman post, leading to the postponement of the election. Local sources reported that while three candidates submitted nomination papers for the Upazila Parishad chairman position, none were considered influential candidates. As per the Election Commission's rules, elections are postponed if no influential candidate is present.

Local political analysts cited the absence of influential candidates in Nagarpur Upazila as the primary reason for the election's postponement. They explained that influential candidates typically participate in elections and encourage voter participation. However, this time, the lack of such candidates resulted in the postponement.

An Election Commission official stated that the last date to submit nomination papers was September 10. However, due to the absence of influential candidates, the commission postponed the election. The official added that a new election date will be announced if an influential candidate is found.
